Community in Bloom:
A community art project for all ages to create a beautiful wool garden mural with flowers, butterflies and bees

Tues. June 30 to
Thurs. August 20
Events for all ages

Join us this summer as we create art together! Along with Pop-Up Art School and Maynard fiber artist Cindy Kennelly, the Library will work with patrons to create a shared art project of felted flowers called Community in Bloom. At seven separate community events, patrons of all ages will learn how to create beautiful felted flowers, butterflies and bees. These pieces will then be incorporated into a large garden mural that will be showcased in the library and at our new senior center for the months to come. Join us for a workshop or for the culminating reception to unveil the mural!
Brought to you by the Maynard Council on Aging, the Friends of the Maynard Public Library and the Library's Haskell Fund.

Community in Bloom Events

Community in Bloom Drop-in Program for All Ages
Tuesday, June 30, 2:30 - 5:30 PM. Drop in event, no registration required.
This is an all ages event and a great way for our smallest patrons to contribute to the project. All ages and abilities welcome! You will create a fun felted flower or insect that will be added to this community art project. All objects created will be left in the library. Please be sure to join us in September for the unveiling!
Take & Make (& Return) Felted Flowers for Adults and Teens
Monday, July 6. Registration required. For teens and adults
Pick up a kit (any time through early August) to make a needle-felted flower while watching a pre-recorded video at home. Then contribute your piece to our Community in Bloom art project. The video will be available through August 4. All pieces must be returned by August 17 at 5 pm.
Community in Bloom-Wet Felted Flowers Workshop for Adults
July 9, 6-8:45 PM, Registration required, Limited seats
Join Maynard fiber artist Cindy Kennelly to learn to create wet felted flowers for our “Community in Bloom” floral project. This hands-on workshop introduces the ancient art of wet felting. Students will learn to transform loose wool roving into a vibrant, three-dimensional textile flower. The course covers wool selection, layout techniques, fiber agitation, and 3D shaping methods. No prior felting experience is required.
Craft Together: Felted Flowers for Adults and Teens
Thursday, July 16, 6:30-8:30 PM, Registration Required
Join other crafters at the library to make a needle-felted flower while watching a pre-recorded video by Pop Up Art School. Then contribute your piece to our Community in Bloom art project.
Felted Butterflies Workshop for Kids
Saturday, August 8, 11:30 AM-1:00 PM, Registration required. For ages 8 and up.
This is a great opportunity for our elementary and middle grade kids to contribute to the project! All items are needle-felted, which requires some hand dexterity. For this reason, kids must be in at least 2nd grade to participate. All pieces will be left in the library to be added to the art project.
Opening Reception for Community in Bloom!
Join us in September (date TBD) to view the completed piece and honor the contributors! Light refreshments will be served. All ages welcome. No registration required.
Please note that pieces smaller than 4" can also be entered into the Tiny Art Show.

There will also be two project events (flowers and bees) for Maynard seniors at the COA. Check the August COA newsletter for details.
Preschoolers at the Community School summer program will also contribute flowers.
