Community Bulletin Board and Table Policy
Purpose
Maynard Public Library provides a limited amount of bulletin board space and table space inside the library building for individuals and groups in the community to display civic, cultural, and educational information and announce events and services that are of general and current interest. These types of materials are different from the Library’s collection of print and non-print materials and are not selected by Library staff. Display of events or information does not imply Library endorsement.
Location and content
On the first floor, the Library provides two bulletin boards and one table in the lobby area for use by the public. The slatted wall space is for display of Library materials only.
-
The bulletin board over the bench is exclusively for government and local non-profit materials. Official government notices and flyers for upcoming events are examples of appropriate items.
-
The table to the right of this bulletin board is designated for Library materials, government and local non-profit notices, and business cards.
-
The bulletin board in the corridor to the right of the Roosevelt Room is for use by private individuals, businesses, and non-local organizations to post items of general interest to others. Flyers and notices for upcoming events and services offered are examples of appropriate items.
On the third floor, the Library provides “bulletin board” wall space on a column near the children’s play area to be used by members of the public, including local non-profit organizations and private individuals, only for materials related to children. Businesses may not post information here. Notices for upcoming children’s events in the community are an example of appropriate items.
The Library does not accept responsibility for materials posted in the building and reserves the right to dispose of any material left on the bulletin boards or table at any time. Anything posted on walls, doors, windows, or other non-designated space will be removed.
All materials posted in the building should be appropriate for all ages of Library patrons.
No political campaign or political party/group-related materials may be posted in the building or elsewhere on Library property.
Procedure
All materials are posted and removed by Library staff. Materials for the first floor should be brought to the Circulation Desk on that floor. Materials for the third floor should be brought to the Children’s Reference Desk on that floor.
The Library has the right to refuse the posting of materials. Library staff will make decisions about what will and will not be posted, guided by this policy, in consultation with the Library Director as needed. Any decision made by the Library Director will be final.
Priority
Due to space limitations, priority will be given to notices about events in Maynard and surrounding communities (Acton, Concord, Hudson, Stow, Sudbury). Notices of 8.5” x 11” or smaller are encouraged to help maximize this community resource. Larger items may be rejected.
Quantity, duration, and removal
One copy of a notice, dated, may be posted for an event or announcement. Notices are subject to removal at any time due to space limitations or other reasons. Most notices will not be retained for longer than one month. The Library cannot accept responsibility for the preservation or protection of materials posted. Once notices are removed, they are discarded.
