The Maynard Public Library is happy to announce that we received an Library Services and Technology Act (or LSTA) grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC for short) called "Science is Everywhere!" The goal of the grant is to increase interest in, access to, and awareness of science, technology, engineering, and math - commonly grouped together as the STEM fields. It focuses mostly on kids in grades 3-8, or ages 8-13, but it will also mean more STEM fun for teens and younger kids!
Some of the things the Library has planned:
~ Science & More!
Each session will feature hands-on activities! The Fall session features experiments and activities with food, the Winter session will be perfect for fans of Rick Riordan and Greek Mythology, the Spring session will focus on nature, and the Summer session will fit right in with the Summer Library Club theme of music and Library's Rock!
~ Science After Dark
Once-a-month programs featuring fun presentations and experiences! We are excited to welcome Empow Studios and their LEGO
~Things to Check Out (no, we're serious - you'll need to stop by the Circulation Desk with your library card if you want to take these home)
In addition to many new books, we plan to make STEM Activity Kits, complete with books and activities for you to try at home!
~Mr. Mark's STEM Station Challenge
This is here to stay! Whether the challenge is building, sensory, logic-based, or more, this activity center will always be available.
