The Fitchburg Art Museum (FAM) is only 45 minutes from Maynard, but many people have yet to discover this award-winning “hidden gem” that opened to the public in 1929. Join Laura Howick, FAM’s Director of Education and Maynard resident, for a virtual tour of the Museum via Zoom. Howick narrate a video showing highlights of the Museum’s many galleries, collections, and family-friendly spaces. She’ll discuss the unusual ways the Museum first and foremost serves its community, and happily answer your questions.

About Laura Howick:

Laura Howick’s thirty-four-year career in four art museums has included implementing almost all facets of art museum education: public programs, studio art classes, teacher workshops, docent training, a Community Gallery, and gallery interpretation. One of her specialties is creating educational, interactive exhibitions for families. In addition, she is one of four authors of Art Works for Schools: A Curriculum for Teaching Thinking In and Through the Arts, and she was a contributor and editor for Inspiring Minds: An Introduction to Object-based Learning (CD-ROM) created by Fitchburg Art Museum. She taught Museum Education and Interpretation in the Tufts University Museum Studies graduate program for two semesters, and over the years has given workshops for numerous schools and other museums.
