Other Sources of Free Books

Project Gutenberg has 38,000 ebooks in Kindle and epub formats.  These books are free to download in the U.S. because their copyright has expired.  Search the Gutenberg catalog.

Open Library has over 1,000,000 free digital books in various formats. Use the "Show only ebooks" checkbooks when searching. Search the Open Books catalog.

LibriVox has an audiobook collection of more than 4,000 unabridged classics in the public domain. Read by volunteers (you can be one, too), they can be played on your computer, MP3 player, cellphone, or burned to a CD. Search the LibriVox catalog.

E-readers at the Maynard Library

The Maynard Library now has a Nook Color and a Kindle Fire available for checkout. You must be 18 years old or over, have a Minuteman Library card and leave a $25 deposit to borrow an e-reader. You must check out and return the e-readers at the Reference Desk. Read more about the library's e-reader policy.

Call 978-897-1010 x103 or visit the Reference Desk for more information.

Our e-readers were purchased as part of the Maynard Reads Together 2012 program. Financial assistance for this special project is made possible with Federal funds from the Institute on Museum and Library Services administered through the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
